Keyword Research Yields Dividends

When we design a microblog for a product or service the first thing I do is build a keyword report.  Just about every aspect of your site is influenced by keywords, and understanding how people search for your website is the key to being found.  I always answer these three questions first before any other step of the process.

1. What do you sell?

Identify your product or service and categorize the single keywords which best describe them.  After making a short list of strong terms, proceed to make a list of keyword phrases which extend the single keywords. These are phrases which are less than four words and contain at least one keyword.

2. Who do you sell it to?

You need to categorize your customers into customer groups.  Often you will find that the product or service is applicable to more than one group of customers.  Identify the groupings that your customers fall into and mark them down for further study.

3.  Who are your competitors?

You are not alone in any market.  There are always competitors and you need to know your's.  Make sure you collect a list of at least 5 top competitor websites and if you can find more, that's a good thing.

Once you have established a short list for each area your ready to begin the research that will lead you to the success your looking to obtain in organic SEO marketing.
